| The nearest village shops are at Coustellet, 2 miles from La Chaparole. The picturesque Provençal hilltop
village of Gordes is only 3 miles away, and the town of Apt (14 miles away) has excellent shops and a lively
Saturday market. The mediaeval walled town of Avignon is 25 miles away. Avignon,
the great city of the popes, has impressively decorated buildings, ancient churches and chapels, and is a
fascinating place to visit for the day. The area around La Chaparole boasts a large number of restaurants (the
renowned Mas Tourteron is 1 mile from the house) and there are many opportunities for local wine tasting. Various
Provençal markets are held daily in the surrounding villages, and the antique centre of L'Isle sur la Sorgue is 8
miles away.
The nearest golf course, the Golf and Country Club de Provence, is just 5 miles away near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse.
Membership of local tennis club (3km) plus rackets available for use. There
are many nature trails and heritage walks in the area, and the Luberon National Park is excellent walking and cycling
country. Other sports organised nearby are canoe-kayak, mountain biking and horse riding.
The Avignon festival takes place in July every year and other local music festivals are held locally throughout the
summer, such as the Roque d'Anthéron Piano festival and the Luberon International String Quartet Festival. Musical and
theatre events are also held in Gordes, Bonnieux and Lacoste.
